Regeneration of Greenmeadow Community Farm

This project involved a proposed extension and alterations to the existing farmhouse building to provide a new café space. A new roof canopy extension to existing tithe haybarn was also proposed along with a new build barn to house play facilities. A new landscaped approach from the existing carpark will also provide level access for visitors.

Other various alterations and improvements to the existing farmhouse buildings and surrounding grounds have been proposed to extend and improve the existing uses currently available at the Community Farm.

The site forms part of the existing Greenmeadow Community Farm grounds, located off Greenforge Way, Cwmbran. It mainly consists of the two main farm buildings (the old farmhouse and barn) an access road and car park. The wider site’s use as a Community Farm includes a visitor attraction with restaurant/café uses, recreational/play space, and event space.

It is hoped that the investment into improving the community farm will help attract visitors to the borough all year-round with a real focus on the outdoor visitor experience which will meet the demand from visitors for more all-weather activity, authentic experiences with animals, time spent outside in nature and outdoor play.

A sustainable surface drainage solution was provided that adhered to the legislative requirements of the SAB authority by way of permeable paving, bioswales, rain gardens and infiltration basins to treat the surface water prior to discharge offsite.

At the time of writing, the contractor tender has been awarded and project completion is due in Spring 2025.
